To help the architecture students of today become the designers of tomorrow, the Northeast Illinois Chapter of The American Institute of Architecture, in conjunction with The American Institute of Architects, is offering three scholarships of $2,000 each. Applicants must be United States citizens and be enrolled for the 2007-08 academic year in one of the 26 accredited architecture programs within the National Architectural Accrediting Board’s East Central or West Central regions. Scholarships are available to currently enrolled architectural students, community college transfer students and high school seniors. Applicants also must be permanent residents of the chapter’s service area, which includes Cook, DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties, except within the city limits of Chicago and areas south of Interstate 55 or east of the Edens Expressway. Past winners are ineligible. All applications, including two letters of recommendation, must be postmarked by May 31. Five applicants will be selected for June interviews and winners are expected to attend the chapter meeting in July to formally receive their awards. The scholarships are funded through the chapter’s annual summer golf outing and are awarded yearly. Applications and instructions can be downloaded from the AIA/NEI web site, www.aianei.org. Students also may request a form by mail from the chapter office, by sending the request, including the student’s name, current mailing address, school and current year in school to: AIA Northeast Illinois, 412 Green Valley Drive, Naperville, Ill., 60540.
