Virginia Tech General Scholarship Program
General Requirements
To be eligible for a General Scholarship, you must:
* Complete a General Scholarship Application for the academic year by the March 11 deadline.
* File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 11 deadline for the aid year in which you wish to recieve aid.
* Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a regular undergraduate, first-degree seeking program.
* Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen as outlined by the FAFSA.
* Have the appropriate academic credentials:
* Maintain full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours per semester).
* Other specific criteria
Entering freshmen and transfer students must achieve an overall SAT of 1100 or higher.
Continuing students must achieve a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
* Recipients of scholarships will be sent a Scholarhsip Award Notification. Freshman recipients should be notified by the end of April. Returning students and transfer students should be notified by the end of June.
* Students that were not awarded scholarships will not receive notifications.
* Recipients are required to write a formal letter of thanks addressed to the donor of the scholarship award. Instructions on how to complete the letter will be sent to recipients in the Scholarship Award Notification. Recipients must send this letter to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid before the scholarship award will show as a credit on the student's bill. The letter will be forwarded to the prospective donor.
* The average General Scholarship Award ranges between $500 and $2,000. These awards are made for an academic year (fall and spring semesters only). There are no General Scholarship awards made during summer sessions.
* General Scholarships are a one-time award and are not automatically renewable. Students must reapply each academic year.
