MEFA College Savings Art Competition
Over $20,000 will be awarded via MEFA U.Fund College Investing Plans for winning students' entries that best depict what they want to be when they graduate college.
In addition to the student contest winners, private, public and charter schools in Massachusetts will have an opportunity to win $500, $300 and $100 gift cards for school supplies. The winning schools will be selected based upon the highest percentage of eligible students who enter from each grade level.
Massachusetts students in grades 3, 4 and 5 have until 5:00 p.m. on November 21, 2008 to submit their artwork. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each grade level and winners will receive $5,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The money will be deposited in the student's name into a U.Fund College Investing Plan account, the Massachusetts 529 college savings plan offered by MEFA and managed by Fidelity Investments.
"We hope parents, teachers and school administrators will take advantage of this opportunity to encourage children to embrace their future aspirations and submit artwork illustrating these dreams," said Thomas Graf, Executive Director of MEFA.
In the past four years, MEFA's College Savings Art Competition has received more than 10,000 entries and awarded over $95,000 in prizes that have been contributed to U.Fund College Investing Plan accounts. Further information about the art competition, including the official rules and eligibility
Boston University College of Communications Scholarships
Scholarships for the Boston University College of Communications. Deadline May 1 of each year.
Boston College Asian American Scholarship
The Boston College Asian American Scholarship was created in 1995 through the initiative of a group of students, faculty, and administrators, to recognize BC juniors whose commitment to academic excellence, to promoting Asian American awareness, and to serving both the Asian American and the wider communities on and off campus, is exceptional.
The Scholarship provides 75% of tuition for senior year. In addition, up to four finalists will be awarded $1,000 grants for purchases at the Boston College Bookstore.
All full-time, Boston College juniors who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The application process involves short statements describing academic and community service activities, as well as a longer essay asking applicants to reflect upon their roles as future leaders for the Asian American community. A selection committee composed of faculty members, staff, administrators, and students will review all applications, and finalists are selected on the basis of two main criteria:
1. Academic accomplishments as evidenced by strong grades, an ambitious selection of courses, and the integration of academic interests with personal goals; and
2. Participation in activities, on campus or off, that serve others and that help strengthen the Asian American community and its contributions to the larger American society.
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents in the United States. The applicant's financial need is also a consideration.
All finalists will be invited to an interview with the selection committee in late March or early April. Announcement of awards will be made in the last week of April.
Reading Scholarship Foundation, Inc.

Any Reading resident who is currently enrolled as a college freshman, sophomore, or junior and who will be enrolled full-time next year is eligible to apply. The application and additional information is available at www.readingsf.org.
The deadline to apply is March 7, 2008 but students may want to apply now or over the holiday break when they may have a little more free time. Thank you so much in helping to spread the word to your current students.
