In addition, Making a Difference Scholars will be offered a $2,500 taxable stipend and housing allowance to support projects they may undertake in the Worcester Community during the summer following their sophomore or junior years.
The Application Process: To apply for a Making a Difference Scholarship, students must submit a separate scholarship application including both a statement describing their community service activities and a letter of recommendation from a community service supervisor or mentor. The committee will review and evaluate completed scholarship applications and contact finalists to arrange the required scholarship interview. Boston College Presidential Scholars Program
The Boston College Presidential Scholars Program is a university-wide co-curricular four-year honors program whose members have been recruited as incoming freshmen from the top 1-2% of the national applicant pool, based on academic achievement, leadership potential and an orientation toward service to society. It carries a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and is limited to fifteen incoming freshman per year. Presidential Scholars participate in three summer programs: community service, an international immersion study experience, and a professional internship, all fully funded. During the academic year, Scholars participate in two biweekly evening programs: a Visiting Speaker series that introduces them to men and women whose achievements have made them leaders in their professions and who can serve as a source of intellectual and personal stimulus, and Leadership 101, a series of practical skills workshops. Presidential Scholars alumni have been admitted to the most prestigious and competitive graduate programs, including nearly all the top 10 law schools, most major medical school programs, and the top ten graduate programs in the sciences.
Yawkey Foundation Yawkey Scholars Program
http://www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/yawkey/program.html
The Yawkey Foundation’s mission is to continue the charitable legacy of Tom and Jean Yawkey by making grants that provide immediate, significant, and positive impact on the quality of life of youth, families, and the underserved. Throughout their lives, Tom and Jean Yawkey championed education as the foundation to a life of opportunity and success and our Board of Trustees recognizes the important role that mentoring plays in education. In keeping with this tradition, the Foundation established a scholarship program dedicated to the youth in our community.
This unique program has been established to recognize the importance of higher education and to support students of Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina in meeting the rising costs of undergraduate college education. Awards will be given to students with unique life circumstances that have made study and achievement challenging and who have had a significant, meaningful experience through participation in a mentoring program or ongoing mentoring relationship during high school. Scholarship awards may be used for full-time, degree-seeking study at certain four-year, private, accredited colleges and universities.
The Yawkey Scholars Program, by making it a preference to reward students with challenging life circumstances who have used a mentoring relationship to help overcome those challenges, meets the need of those students who might not otherwise be able to afford a private, four-year college or university.
This need-based scholarship program is managed and administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization that seeks to involve and assist the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement.
