Cal Grant from the California Student Aid Commission
http://www.csac.ca.gov/doc.asp?ID=20
Need Cash for College? You Could Get a Cal Grant.
Cal Grants are one of the smartest ways to get cash for college. For starters, it's money you don't have to pay back. And secondly, it's guaranteed. If you're a graduating high school senior or recent graduate, meet academic, financial and eligibility requirements and submit two forms by March 2, you are guaranteed a Cal Grant!
How Much Money Are We Talking About?
With a Cal Grant you can get up to $9,700 a year to pay for college expenses at any qualifying California college, university or career or technical school in California. Depending on which Cal Grant you get, the money can be used for tuition, room and board, even books and pencils. The best part is, it's yours to keep and you don't have to pay it back.
Here's How to Get It.
All you have to do is submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) between January 1 and March 2 and submit a verified Cal Grant GPA anytime between November and the March 2 deadline. If you meet the income, eligibility, and GPA requirements, the cash is yours. The best part is, you can fill out the FAFSA online.
To submit a verified Cal Grant GPA, first check with your school to see if they will do it for you. If not, you can go online and download a GPA Verification form, fill out the student section and take it to your school. Dont let a little paperwork stand between you and a Cal Grant.

University of Californa, Los Angeles (UCLA) Regents Scholarship Program
http://www.fao.ucla.edu/uclascholarships/regents.html
The Regents Scholarship Program was established by the Regents of the University of California in 1962,and represents one of the highest honors awarded to a student at the University. Regents scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and exceptional promise. Although the Financial Aid Office administers the Regents Scholarship Program on the UCLA campus, financial need is not used as a criteria in the selection process.
UCLA awards up to 100 Regents scholarships each year to entering and transfer students and currently has a total of 450 Regents scholars enrolled at UCLA.
The UCLA Regents Scholarship program is unique to the UCLA campus, therefore, the award cannot be transferred to other UC campuses.
Selection Process
* The top 1.5% of the entering freshmen applicant pool are invited by the Faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes and the Financial Aid Scholarship Office to compete for the UCLA Regents scholarship. A separate scholarship application is not required.
(750-800 entering freshmen are invited to compete each year)
* Letters of invitation are mailed to students during the first week of February.
* UCLA has, historically, chosen the top 1.5% of the entering freshmen applicant pool to compete for the Regents scholarship.
* 300-350 transfer students are invited to compete for the Regents scholarship each year and have, historically, maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA at their prior colleges.
* The UCLA Faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes selects the scholars after a rigorous review of each student’s academic performance, quality of the essay, the quality of the student’s extra-curricular activities, letters of recommendation, personal achievement rankings (as determined by the Admissions Office), life’s hardships, and additional distinctive personal achievements.
Monetary Award and Tenure of Scholarship
* Entering freshmen are awarded a four-year scholarship (12 academic quarters)
* Entering transfer students are awarded a two-year scholarship (6 academic quarters).
* All Regents scholars are considered for a $5500 honorarium regardless of financial need.
* If a Regents scholar has additional financial need beyond the $5500 honorarium, the scholar will be awarded university scholarships and/or grants to cover the remainder of the scholar’s need.
* The Regents scholarship need-based award is determined annually and is designed to supplement the Cal Grant A or B programs, Pell Grant award and other outside scholarship awards.
* Regents scholars are required to report additional outside financial assistance and/or outside scholarships awards to the Financial Aid Scholarship Office.
Maintaining Eligibility for the Regents Scholarship
* Scholars must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA during all quarters of attendance to retain the Regents scholarship.
* Scholars are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 units/ quarter during their tenure as a Regents scholar and must make satisfactory progress towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must notify the Scholarship Office of any change in academic status, such as taking less than the required 12 units per quarter, dropping below a 3.0 or if they are planning to take an approved leave of absence.
* The Scholarship office performs an annual academic review of all scholars
Notification
* Regents Scholars will be notified at the time of their admissions to UCLA.

City of Anaheim Mayor's TechScholar Program Scholarship
http://www.anaheim.net/administration/PIO/news.asp?id=693
In an effort to help Anaheim students advance academically, the City of Anaheim and EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), the nation's next generation Internet service provider, are offering a scholarship that provides up to 33 high school students with free laptops and up to two years of Wi-Fi service.
The Mayor's TechScholar Program, created by Mayor Curt Pringle during his State of the City address, is open to any college-bound high school sophomore or junior who lives in Anaheim and attends one of the City's 11 high schools. EarthLink is providing the laptops and waiving the students' Wi-Fi service fee. Seattle-based Schtickers.com is donating skins to cover the laptops.
"The Mayor's TechScholar Program will give students a chance to conduct research and complete homework assignments any where in Anaheim at any time," Pringle said. "I want to thank our friends at EarthLink and Schtickers.com for their support of this scholarship program, which will benefit many Anaheim college-bound students."
To apply, students need to complete an application, provide an authorized high school transcript and submit a typewritten essay that is 500 words or less. Because Anaheim has been dubbed a "freedom-friendly city," the essay question asks the students to reflect on what they would do to give Anaheim residents more freedom. Applications are available in all 11 high school scholarship coordinator offices or online.
The 33 students will be chosen based on merit and need. Recipients will be notified by September 1. Applications must be completed and returned to each student's high school by June 2 at 12 p.m.
