Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs) popular

8 out of 10 stars (7 votes)

What is a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)? FSEOGs are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need—those with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC) numbers (see here ). Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority for FSEOG awards. Unlike Pell Grants, the amount of FSEOG funds you receive depends not only on your financial need but also on the amount of other aid you get and the availability of funds at your school. Receiving other aid might reduce the amount of your FSEOG award. FSEOGs are administered by the financial aid office at each school participating in the program. We provide a certain amount of FSEOG funds each year to those schools. When all funds are used for that award year, no more FSEOG awards can be made for that year. So, make sure you apply for federal student aid early to be considered for these funds. You can get between $100 and $4,000 a year, depending on when you apply, your financial need, the funding level of the school you're attending, and the policies of your school's financial aid office. Your school can credit your grant funds to your school account, pay you directly (usually by check), or combine these methods. Also, with your permission, schools can credit your bank account. Schools must disburse at least once per term (semester, trimester, or quarter). Schools that don't use formally defined, traditional terms must disburse funds at least twice per academic year. Can I receive a grant if I'm enrolled less than half time? Yes, if you're otherwise eligible. You won't receive as much as if you were enrolled full time, however.

The Federal Pell Grant popular

8 out of 10 stars (6 votes)

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded usually only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Pell Grant.) Pell Grants are considered a foundation of federal financial aid, to which aid from other federal and nonfederal sources might be added.
