Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Program (Visit this link)

The Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Program awards one $1,500 scholarship each year. This year's winner will be announced on July 1, 2009. To be eligible to enter the Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Program, you must adhere to the following characteristics:
* attend classes at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.
* take a minimum of 12 semester units (you must be a full-time student)
* be a legal resident of the U.S. or provide a valid green card
* maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5
* The deadline for Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Contest entries is 12:00 p.m. (noon) PST on June 1, 2009.
* No late entries will be accepted!
* Please direct all questions concerning scholarships to scholarships@proof-reading.com.
* Regrettably, no scholarship or essay contest questions can be answered by phone.
Scholarship Guidelines:
You must write a minimum of 1,500 words in reference to the information presented below. There is no maximum word count. We will focus on grammar and your ability to present ideas clearly. Include a Works Cited page, with a minimum of three sources. The essay must follow the Modern Language Association (MLA) system for documenting sources, which is set forth in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 6th edition (New York: MLA, 2003). Submit your essay, using the form below. Do not send your transcript unless it is requested.
The NPD Group, a leading global market research company, recently reported that iTunes, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, and Amazon are the top music sellers, in terms of both CDs and digital music, in the United States. Consumers who purchase CDs are doing so more and more from Web sites, and digital music sales have climbed 54% in the last year alone. Moreover, the four top CD sellers sell CDs at prices that are 35% lower than those found in brick-and-mortar music stores. According to Forrester Research, an independent technology and market research company, digital music sales will continue to grow, outstripping CD sales in a mere five years. Unfortunately, digital music sales are not growing sufficiently to account for the continuing decline in CD sales.
Based on the information given above and information gleaned from outside sources, respond to one of the following essay prompts:
1. With the continuing drop in CD sales, what is the benefit, if any, of selling CDs at such low prices? What is the benefit of music labels' continuing to produce CDs?
2. Is the advent of digital music killing the music industry? What can digital music and/or CD sellers do to expand the market (increase profits)?
