From education and environment, to arts, culture and humanities, Toyota believes education is one of the essential keys to opening doors and creating opportunities. The Toyota Community Scholars program is one of Toyota's national education programs supporting students and teachers.
The Toyota Community Scholars program awards 100 scholarships valued at $10,000 and $20,000 over four years to outstanding high school seniors nationwide. Participating high schools may nominate one student who exemplifies outstanding academic excellence, leadership and most importantly - commitment to community service. Past Toyota Community Scholars have done everything from spearheading charity drives and organizing cultural and educational summits, to establishing their own community service organizations. The program includes an all-expenses paid recognition trip. The program is administered by Educational Testing Service.
HOW TO APPLY
High schools nationwide are asked to nominate one student for the Toyota Community Scholars program. The school's nominee should have a consistent record of academic excellence, be active in school programs, and be recognized as a leader by his/her peers and instructors. In addition, the nominee must have initiated or be actively involved in a service program that addresses a school or community need. Only one nominee will be accepted from a school. All phases of seletion will be handled by the Scholarship and Recognition Programs unit at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, New Jersey.
TIMETABLE
* September: Application materials mailed to high schools nationwide.
* Early December: Applications submitted by schools to ETS
* February: Semi-finalists notified
* April: Scholarship recipients notified
* May: Toyota hosts recognition event
