Yawkey Foundation Yawkey Scholars Program (Visit this link)

The Yawkey Foundation’s mission is to continue the charitable legacy of Tom and Jean Yawkey by making grants that provide immediate, significant, and positive impact on the quality of life of youth, families, and the underserved. Throughout their lives, Tom and Jean Yawkey championed education as the foundation to a life of opportunity and success and our Board of Trustees recognizes the important role that mentoring plays in education. In keeping with this tradition, the Foundation established a scholarship program dedicated to the youth in our community. This unique program has been established to recognize the importance of higher education and to support students of Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina in meeting the rising costs of undergraduate college education. Awards will be given to students with unique life circumstances that have made study and achievement challenging and who have had a significant, meaningful experience through participation in a mentoring program or ongoing mentoring relationship during high school. Scholarship awards may be used for full-time, degree-seeking study at certain four-year, private, accredited colleges and universities. The Yawkey Scholars Program, by making it a preference to reward students with challenging life circumstances who have used a mentoring relationship to help overcome those challenges, meets the need of those students who might not otherwise be able to afford a private, four-year college or university. This need-based scholarship program is managed and administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization that seeks to involve and assist the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement.
