Marine Corps Sgt Jeannette L. Winters Memorial Scholarship
The AFCEA Educational Foundation has established a $2,000 annual scholarship in memory of Marine Corps Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters. Sergeant Winters and six other Marines died January 9, 2002, when their KC-130 aircraft crashed in Pakistan. Sergeant Winters, a radio operator and four-year Marine Corps veteran, was based with the Marine Corps Wing Communications Squadron-38 at Miramar, California. A native of Gary, Indiana and one of six children, Sergeant Winters became a role model for others in her community with her decision to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Her strength of character, geniality, and success as a Marine communicator reflect the spirit of excellence and the technical mission advocated by AFCEA. The Educational Foundation is proud to honor Jeannette L. Winters with this memorial scholarship.
Applications for the Marine Corps Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters Memorial Scholarship are requested from U.S. Marine Corps men and women who are currently on active duty, in the reserves or honorably discharged veterans. Eligible candidates must be currently attending fully accredited colleges or universities in the United States and enrolled as either part-time or full-time undergraduate students in an eligible Bachelor of Science degree program. Students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.
