Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a private non-profit organization with the primary mission of providing financial assistance to Army Soldiers and their dependents in time of valid emergency need. The MG James Ursano Scholarship Fund administered by AER was established in 1976 as a secondary mission to help Army families with the costs of post secondary undergraduate level education, vocational training, and preparation for acceptance by military service academies for their dependent children. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be … Dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children or a ward of Army soldiers on active duty, retired, or deceased while on active duty or after retirement. Children of Reserve or National Guard soldiers mobilized under Title 10 status for the entire academic year. The children of Gray Area Retirees are also eligible. Registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS). You can check your status at 1-800 538-9552. Unmarried for the entire academic year. Under the age of 22 on May 1, 2007 based on the 2007-2008 academic year (AY). Maintain a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0 based on a 4.0 scale. SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES Applicants must be enrolled, accepted, or pending acceptance as full time dependent students for the entire academic year in post-secondary school for undergraduate study. Full time attendance is required at the school accepting the scholarship funds. These schools must be accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Scholarship applicants must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale for funds to be disbursed. Awards are primarily based on financial need, as evidenced by income, family size and special financial obligations. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS – AER FORM 4R The application for 2007-2008 academic year are available by mail from HQ AER from November 1, 2006 through February 20, 2007. The application can be printed as a PDF form from our website, www.aerhq.org from November 1, 2006 through March 1, 2007. The applicant can apply online on our website, www.aerhq.org from November 1, 2006 through March 1, 2007. A signature page is not required for online applications. Students using the online application who enter an email address, will receive an automatic email response verifying import of the application. This email should be saved as proof of import. To be considered, the scholarship application must be complete, accurate and contain all required documents and signatures, if applicable, when received according to the established deadlines. Scholarship funds used for room and board may be taxable. Refer to IRS Publication 520. HOW DO I RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP? Provide the requested information by the postmark deadline. The majority of students who meet deadlines receive a scholarship, 98% in 2006-2007 AY. Academic achievements and individual accomplishments are considered. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis for up to a maximum of 4 years of undergraduate study. Funds can be used for classroom or online classes at the school accepting the scholarship funds. The student must attend as a full time student for the entire academic year. Continuing students must apply each academic year.
