City of Anaheim Mayor's TechScholar Program Scholarship (Visit this link)
In an effort to help Anaheim students advance academically, the City of Anaheim and EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), the nation's next generation Internet service provider, are offering a scholarship that provides up to 33 high school students with free laptops and up to two years of Wi-Fi service.
The Mayor's TechScholar Program, created by Mayor Curt Pringle during his State of the City address, is open to any college-bound high school sophomore or junior who lives in Anaheim and attends one of the City's 11 high schools. EarthLink is providing the laptops and waiving the students' Wi-Fi service fee. Seattle-based Schtickers.com is donating skins to cover the laptops.
"The Mayor's TechScholar Program will give students a chance to conduct research and complete homework assignments any where in Anaheim at any time," Pringle said. "I want to thank our friends at EarthLink and Schtickers.com for their support of this scholarship program, which will benefit many Anaheim college-bound students."
To apply, students need to complete an application, provide an authorized high school transcript and submit a typewritten essay that is 500 words or less. Because Anaheim has been dubbed a "freedom-friendly city," the essay question asks the students to reflect on what they would do to give Anaheim residents more freedom. Applications are available in all 11 high school scholarship coordinator offices or online.
The 33 students will be chosen based on merit and need. Recipients will be notified by September 1. Applications must be completed and returned to each student's high school by June 2 at 12 p.m.
Approximate scholarship value: $ 100000
