Embroiderers' Guild Scholarship

Two Embroiderers' Guild Scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded annually to embroiderers to develop the practice of embroidery. One Scholarship is for embroiderers in the age category of 18 to 30 inclusive, and one is for embroiderers over 30 years of age.
The Guild defines embroidery as being all work stitched or derived from stitch. All applicants should have studied the practice of embroidery or stitched textiles through formal or informal learning.
The Scholarships are to support embroiderers to undertake projects which further their own embroidery practice.
Working with the Embroiderers' Guild during the Scholarship year provides each Scholar with opportunities to be introduced to the Guild's network of Members, Branches and practicing professionals. The Guild holds additional funding to enable them to participate in Guild activities.
This year there were 13 applicants in the 18 - 30 category and 7 applicants over 30. From these Emma Valentine and Clyde Olliver were selected by the Embroiderers Guild to be the Scholars for 2007. Both were invited to display their work with the Embroiderers' Guild on the Graduate Showcase Stand at the Knitting and Stitching Shows this autumn, and at the Guild's AGM next year.
The entry deadline for next year is 8 February 2008. Please promote the scholarship to your students, friends and colleagues.
