Microsoft is excited to be offering more than a half-million dollars in scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year. Applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2011.
Microsoft will review all applications and select final candidates on the basis of eligibility, quality of application, displayed interest in the software industry, commitment to leadership, and financial need. All applicants will be notified of their status via email on March 18, 2011.
We want to encourage students from groups currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. While all candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility described below may apply, a large majority of our scholarships will be awarded to female students, underrepresented minority students, and students with disabilities. Minority applicants must be a member of one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African-American, Hispanic, or Native American.

This scholarship is wonderful because of the diversity of the qualifications and not directed in a manner that allow only tech. individual to apply, it is directed torward the underreprestentd individuals which a lot of individual who believe they would not qualify based on the outlined description. Most would be surprised how they may possibly fit into such broad catagories mentioned. In Washington State it is a touchy matter when qualifications appear to be based on quatos, gender, disbilities and/or any thing related to affirmation action issues. I think it is a great opportunity to allow individuals to assess if they fit into any of thoes catagorys. They might just be surpised!
